Luke Romano on defending the rolling maul

All Blacks lock Luke Romano has revealed that the squad have worked extensively on defending the rolling maul.

Argentina notably caused New Zealand problems in that area when the two sides met in the Rugby Championship.

"Obviously, set-piece defence is a big cornerstone of our game, something that we pride ourselves on," said Romano.

"So after their couple of driving tries against us in Christchurch, we visited that area and looked to correct the areas where we felt we let ourselves down.

"That’s the reality of the modern game now; a lot more teams are using the rolling maul and you have to combat it.

"We pride ourselves on being able to stop those type of things so for it to happen twice in one game, your pride does take a little bit of a dent but it’s how you bounce back from that. Hopefully, come Sunday we’ll be able to stop them.”
