Marler apologises for 'gypsy boy' jibe

The RFU have released a statement confirming that Joe Marler was responsible for a remark towards Samson Lee during England's win over Wales.

"Joe spoke to Samson at half-time to apologise and he was reminded by (head coach) Eddie Jones of his responsibilities as an England player after the game," the RFU statement read.

The pair squared up to each other during the encounter and the refs mic picked up the comment directed at Lee.

Marler looks set to miss England's Grandslam show down with France next week after admitting the offence.

Verbal abuse of a player based on religion, race, colour, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation or otherwise carries a minimum sanction of a four-week suspension.

Tomas Francis cited for gouge

Wales prop Tomas Francis was cited yesterday evening for an apparent eye gouge on England prop Dan Cole.

Francis was penalised during the game for the gouge, as his fingers were deemed to make contact with the eye of Cole.

Referee Craig Joubert didn't show a yellow or red card due to the fact of there only being 1 camera angle available to show if it was committed with intent.

The Six Nations' Independent Citing Commissioner said Francis was cited "for allegedly making contact with the eyes or eye area of an opponent".

A disciplinary hearing will be held next week.
