Rebels to throw Cooper a Super Rugby lifeline - reports

According to Rugby.com.au the Melbourne Rebels have launched a major push to sign Quade Cooper.

The report from Rugby.com.au states that negotiations between the Reds, Rebels and Cooper's management have been ongoing for almost two months with the deal to be completed in coming weeks.

The Rebels have been urged by Dave Wessels to make complete the deal which will give Wessels a Super Rugby winning halfback pairing with Will Genia and Quade Cooper.

The Melbourne-based side has already signed Matt Toomua for next season but he will only arrive at the side at the backend of the season, while Reece Hodge also featured at flyhalf this season.

Elsewhere, Jack Maddocks has been tipped to play at 10 while Jack Debreczeni is currently in New Zealand's Mitre 10 Cup.

Cooper was insistent he wanted to stay in Brisbane and rejected a previous Rebels' approach but he is believed to be now open to a move, and there is also talk the Sunwolves have expressed interest.
