Robertson will coach the All Blacks: Ronan O'Gara

Crusaders assistant coach and Ireland legend Ronan O'Gara has endorsed Scott Robertson as the next All Blacks coach.

Scott Robertson will coach the All Blacks, it's just a case of whether it's in 2020 or further down the track.  That's the call O'Gara made on Friday morning, a few hours after All Blacks coach Steve Hansen announced he would stand down after the 2019 World Cup.

"Of course, yeah. I think it will definitely happen, there's no doubt it," O'Gara said at the Sumner Surf Lifesaving Club in Christchurch.

"He's made of the right stuff, Razor. He's got great energy, charisma, ideas. He's a leader of men. Yeah, it will happen."

Should Robertson follow through and put his name in the mix, the Crusaders will have to play a waiting game in terms of the makeup of their coaching group for the 2020 season.

If Robertson doesn't land the All Blacks head coaching job, or an assistant coaching role with the national team, he will have to decide whether he wants to continue with the Crusaders, or try his hand overseas.

O'Gara was asked whether he would be interesting in becoming the Crusaders head coach: "Of course I would, yeah,"

"But it's all ifs and buts. I don't deal in ifs and buts . . . I know what I'm doing for this campaign and that's all that bothers and interests me. I'm happy doing what I'm doing. It's ifs and buts for Razor. But he was the guy that gave me the break here. Who knows, I could go where ever he goes next."
