Saturday Super Rugby Top Performers

Saturday Super Rugby Top Performers

After what was an entertaining start to an action-packed day of Super Rugby action we take a look at the Top Performers of the day.

Liam Messam

Altough his backs will grab the headlines, Liam Messam was immense in the first half as the Chiefs raced into a 42-0 lead.

He got his side on the front foot with strong carries, offloaded well and put a number of players into gaps resulting in tries.

Solomon Alaimalo

The Chiefs fullback continued his fine form making over 100 running metres on his way to beating 8 defenders and making three clean breaks and scoring a try.

He was a consistent threat to the Highlanders defensive line throughout the game and sparked a number of the Chiefs attacks that lead to tries.

Folau Faingaa

Faingaa continued to stake his claim for a test call up with a dominant display against the Hurricanes.

His was solid at the set pieces and made 50 running metres from his 11 carries.

He was exceptional at the breakdown and made smart decisions at the back of the Brumbies maul, which lead to him crossing the whitewash.

Rory Arnold

A powerful performance by the big man. He put it a number of thumping tackles and made 50 running metres from his 12 carries.

He was the go to man at lineout time and did well to power over the line from close range.

He also put the Hurricanes under pressure at ruck and lineout time.

Kyle Godwin

A number of the Brumbies backs could have made our list of top performers with Christian Leali'ifano, Andy Muirhead, Tom Banks and Joe Powell all having outstanding games but Kyle Godwin was the glue that made it all stick against the Hurricanes.

He ran good lines, was strong on defence, shifted the ball well and made good decisions throughout the game.

He was rewarded with a try and came centimetres short of a second.
