Savea blow for Hurricanes

Star Hurricanes' flanker Ardie Savea will miss much of the 2020 Super Rugby season after he confirmed via a post on Instagram that he needs corrective knee surgery on the leg injury he picked up during the All Blacks' World Cup loss to England.

The All Black will be out of rugby for five to six months.

Savea said he was 'pretty guttered' [sic] with the news as he thought he would be all right if that sort of thing happened to him.

For the moment he was partying and relaxing ahead of the surgery.

Dissapointing news for the Hurricanes with their star man set to be sidelined for most of the Super Rugby season

"Looking forward to the journey of rehabbing my knee and trying to get back on the field and supporting and helping the 'Canes in any way I can," he said.

Super Rugby has an early start next year, with the opening round on January 31. Round robin play ends on May 30 so the best-case scenario for his return would be to be fit in time should the Hurricanes make the playoffs.

Looking to take up the slack will be Wellington captain Du'Plessis Kirifie who had an outstanding season leading the capital's Lions to the Mitre 10 Cup final where they lost to Tasman.

The All Blacks mid-season window has shifted to July when they meet Wales with one Test against Scotland
