The top point scorers in European Cup history

5. Former Ulster and Irish International David Humphreys currently sits in 5th spot with 564 points to his name in the European Cup. He was also part of the Ulster side to win the European Cup in the 1998/1999 season which became the first Irish side to win the European Cup by beating French side Colomiers.

4. Next up is former Stade Francais and Italian International Diego Dominguez, who scored 645 points during his 7 year stay at Stade Francais. Dominguez unfortunately was never on the winning side losing in two European Cup finals. However he can take some consolation in holding the record for the most points scored in a final when he scored all of Stade Francais’s points in a 34-30 defeat to Leicester Tigers in 2001.

3. Like Dominguez, Dimitri Yachvili is one of the top point scorers in European Cup history to have never picked up a winners medal losing in two finals. The former French international scored 661 points for Biarritz in the European Cup and is the only scrum-half selected in the top five.

2. Stephen Jones has to settle for second spot with 869 points, having played in the European Cup for both the Scarlets and Clermont Auvergne. Like Yachvili and Dominguez, Jones was never able to secure a European Cup medal and never made it to the final but his kicking from the tee was always impressive and he is deserving of 2nd spot

1. With an overwhelming lead former Munster outhalf Ronan O’Gara leads the way with 1,365 points. O’Gara played in Europe’s elite competition for 16 seasons where he was part of a winning side twice with Munster in 2006 and 2008. He was also on the losing side in two finals in 2000 and 2002. With such a huge lead who knows if someone will ever go ahead of O’Gara, with no players still playing at the moment even close to the former Irish International.
