Tom Smallbone Announces Retirement

London Scottish prop Tom Smallbone has today announced his retirement from rugby with immediate effect due to a shoulder injury.

The 25-year-old who managed two appearances for London Scottish this season, will step away from rugby following medical advice.

Smallbone arrived at Scottish in July this season after joining from fellow Championship club London Irish, where he made his way through the academy system and achieved more than 40 appearances for the Irish exiles, including 24 Premiership matches.

.

Commenting on his retirement, Smallbone said: “It is with great sadness that I have to prematurely call time on my playing career. However, I feel fortunate that over my career I have had the privilege of playing for two great clubs, travelled the world, played alongside world class players and made lifelong friends. I am extremely grateful for all the support I have received throughout my career at both London Irish and London Scottish. I hope to stay involved in rugby in some form going forward, and I am excited to see what the next chapter brings and the challenges that lie ahead.”
