Top Performers - Munster vs Gloucester

Tadhg Beirne

Another summer import for Munster caught the eye today. The Kildare man was a menace to Gloucester all day, stealing lineout ball, foiling their rolling maul and slowing their ruck ball with clever jackalling. He made a couple of linebreaks and his extensive skillset comes in quite handy for the men in red when the game gets a little less structured. He will be in contention for a starting place in Ireland’s World Cup squad come next year.

Joey Carbery

Munster’s star summer signing was in scintillating form for the province today at Thomond Park. He distributed extremely well from stand-off, making the correct decisions on when to keep it tight and when to go wide. He had a hand in a number of their tries and even bagged one for himself on a clever show-and-go. His cover defence when deputised at fullback was equally as impressive, as he pulled down the giants Banahan and Woodward with ease.

Rhys Marshall

The kiwi performed his usual duties up front today, claiming a couple of turnovers and bagging a try on the back of a rolling maul. It is now a common occurrence that the hooker is named on the scoresheet for the men from the south. If he can keep up this sort of form, don’t be surprised if he receives a call from Joe Schmidt when he becomes eligible for selection for the men in green.
