Richard Hibbard

13th Dec 1983 1.83m/114kg Hooker

The former rugby league player and Glan Afan Comprehensive School student made his Ospreys debut in 2004.

The hooker had previously represented Taibach, Aberavon and Swansea RFC before a brief stint in rugby league with the now defunct Aberavon Fighting Irish.

He made his senior Wales debut against Argentina in 2006, scoring his first international try in the win over Scotland at Murrayfield in the 2013 RBS 6 Nations and scored again for Wales against Ireland in August 2015, his most recent international appearance prior to the Rugby World Cup.

To date, Hibbard has won 38 Welsh caps. Hibbard has come on leaps and bounds in recent seasons and this form has seen him overtake Mathew Rees as Wales No.1 test hooker, and eventually being named in the 2013 Lions touring party.

No mean achievement when you consider that Rees is a former Lion himself. Hibbard enjoyed a successful tour, coming off the bench in the first two tests before starting the decisive third test, which the Lions won emphatically to secure a first tour victory since 2001.

Hibbard signed for Gloucester in 2014, ending a 10 year stint at the Ospreys which saw him amass 175 appearances and 50 points. He regularly finds himself in the starting lineup and currently has 15 caps to his name with his adopted club. November 2016 saw him extend his stay at Gloucester beyond 2017.

In December 2017, Hibbard announced that he will be leaving Gloucester at the end of the 2017-18 season to join Welsh region, Dragons, on a three-year deal.
