Shaun Sowerby

A single test Springbok, back rower Shaun Sowerby enjoyed a successful playing career in France having captained the Sharks.

Born in Vereeniging, Sowerby cut his teeth at Varisty level with the University of Natal in the late 90s before breaking into the Sharks team.

Sowerby left the Sharks to join Stade Français in 2004 having made his test debut for Samoa back in 2002.

His time with Stade Francais came to an end in 2007, when he departed to Toulouse.

He was immediately successful at the club winning the TOP14 in his first season with the club.

In 2010, he won the Heineken Cup, also with Toulouse. He moved to FC Grenoble for his final two seasons of his career in 2012.

Following his retirement, he was subsequently appointed as the forward's coach of South African provincial side the Eastern Province Kings.

On 30 December 2014, Sowerby joining the backroom staff as the new forwards coach for French club Montpellier.

Sowerby has since been taken up as the joint head coaching role with Biarritz.
