Hape began his career playing rugby league with the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL,before moving to England to join the Bradford Bulls. 2008 saw Hape change codes and sign for Bath where he developed into a powerful centre whos game centred on his solid defence and offloading skills. A strong season in 2009-2010, Hape broke into the England squad for the Six Nations, qualifying through residency.
