Will Jordan Returns for Sold-Out Grand Final Rematch Against the Chiefs
- 184
Round 15 sees a full house under the roof, a familiar rivalry and plenty on the line with only two regular season games left where every point matters.
The Crusaders will welcome back Will Jordan into the starting XV for his first game at the new stadium after being sidelined with a calf injury.
“I haven’t been a great spectator the last few weeks, especially with everything going on around the new stadium. To be back now and able to contribute to a team that’s been going well over the last month is pretty special,” says Jordan.
Penney says welcoming a player of Jordan’s calibre back at this stage of the season is a timely boost.
“He’s one of the world’s best. Having someone like that come back into your group is a real blessing, and the timing couldn’t be better,” says Penney.
The group has returned from the break with intent, knowing the business end of the season is right in front of them.
“The energy’s good, and you’d expect it to be at the pointy end. The lads are determined, so we’re in a good place at the moment.”
Jordan says the buzz around the new stadium, and the energy flowing from the crowd, is something he’s especially looking forward to experiencing first‑hand.
“The main thing the boys have talked about playing under the roof is the noise. It’s a real step up, and you feel your fans right behind you. With good conditions and a dry ball, it gives you the chance to play a bit more, which hopefully leads to a few opportunities.”
One of the most exciting storylines this week is the potential debut of young lock Liam Jack, who’s been named on the bench after Tahlor Cahill was ruled out with a hamstring injury.
For Jack, it’s a moment he's been waiting for.
“It’s very exciting and it's been quite a long time coming, with a lot of work and a couple of injuries in between. I can’t wait,” says Jack.
The 21‑year‑old says the opportunity means even more given his family history with the club – his dad Graham is Crusader #50 and uncle Chris Jack Crusader #63.
“It’s pretty cool. I’d say my family are quite proud. Hopefully I can wear a number like my dad and my uncle did, so that’d be really special.”
Penney says Jack’s selection reflects both his resilience and the Crusaders’ commitment to developing young talent.
“He’s worked really, really hard to get himself into this position. He’s a talented young man and we’re very excited about his future.”
Chay Fihaki has returned from injury to start on the right wing.
The Crusaders have also had some changes among the reserves, with George Bell ruled out due to a calf injury and Manumaua Letiu coming onto the bench. Taha Kemara also returns among the reserves.
Friday night also marks Kids’ Round, continuing a celebration that has become a fixture on the Super Rugby Pacific calendar. In 2026, the focus is on creating more fun and more unforgettable moments for young fans.
Families can enjoy plenty of entertainment including a Kids Dance Zone, stilt walkers, face painting, balloon making and inflatables, adding to the atmosphere around the ground before kick‑off.
