The ACT Brumbies are pleased to announce local product Liam Bowron has re-signed with the club for a further two seasons, extending his stay in Brumbies colours through to the end of 2028.
A proud Canberran, Bowron’s rugby journey began with Canberra Royals before progressing through Marist College and the Brumbies Pathway system. A Marist graduate and Junior Wallabies representative at the 2023 U20s World Cup, the hooker’s rise accelerated following a standout 2024 campaign with Royals, where he helped the club secure back-to-back John I Dent Cup Premierships.
His form elevated him from the Brumbies Academy into the senior squad, making his debut in the 2024 season against the Fijian Drua at GIO Stadium in front of family, friends and a vocal home crowd.
Since then, Bowron has continued to grow into an important piece of the Brumbies pack, with his strong performances also earning selection in the Australia A tour to Japan in 2025.
Now firmly entrenched in the squad, the dynamic hooker has built a reputation as a workmanlike defender, a damaging close-range runner and a steady hand at lineout time.
Bowron said remaining with his hometown club was something he always wanted.
“This club means a lot to me. Growing up in Canberra, the Brumbies were always the team I looked up to, so getting the opportunity to continue here is something I’m incredibly grateful for,” Bowron said.
“We’ve got a really tight group and an environment that pushes you to improve every day. I feel like I’m developing my game here and there’s still a lot more growth in me.”
The hooker also credited the club and wider Canberra rugby community for shaping his journey.
“The support I’ve had from the Brumbies, my teammates, coaches and the Canberra rugby community has been massive throughout my career,” he said.
“To represent this region is something I never take for granted and I’m excited to keep giving everything I can for the Brumbies.”
ACT Brumbies Head Coach Stephen Larkham said Bowron’s development reflected both his work ethic and connection to the club.
“Liam’s someone who has earned everything through hard work and consistency,” Larkham said.
“He’s developed into a tough, physical hooker who brings real energy to our forward pack, and you can see how much playing for the Brumbies means to him.
“We’re excited to see where he can take his game over the next few seasons.”
Director of Performance Cam Treloar said Bowron’s re-signing was a reflection of both his growth as a player and the standards he brings to the environment every day.
“Liam’s the type of player who sets the tone with his work ethic and physicality,” Treloar said.
“He’s a tough competitor, but he’s also someone who genuinely cares about the group and representing Canberra well. Keeping local players like Liam at the Brumbies is hugely important for our club and our culture.”
Liam and the Brumbies now turn their attention to securing a finals spot. First stop is a trip to Sydney to take on rivals the NSW Waratahs, before returning home for a blockbuster regular season finale against Moana Pasifika at GIO Stadium.
Brumbies fans can play their part in the run home by making the journey north or packing out GIO for the final home clash as the race to the finals heats up.
