Benhard extends Bristol stay

South African-born England centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg has committed his future to the Bristol Bears.

The 28-year-old has signed a new contract with the Premiership club, but the length of it has not been disclosed.

Janse van Rensburg has been with Bristol since 2023, having previously played for London Irish, and earned 73 caps. He made his England Test debut in July during the Nations Championship.

“I’m absolutely delighted BV has extended his time at Bristol as he is genuinely one of the best players I have had the privilege to coach,” said Bristol director of rugby Pat Lam.

“The reason everyone marvels at his consistency of performance week in and out, is all down to his incredible attitude and desire to represent his family with pride and not let his team down.”

The centre said he was delighted to extend his stay at Bristol, where he believes he can continue to develop his game.

“I’m really happy to be staying at Bristol. I’ve loved my time here so far and it was an easy decision to commit my future to the club,” he said.

“There’s a lot of ambition within this squad and I want to be part of taking this club forward. The supporters have been brilliant to me and my family since we arrived, and I’m looking forward to making more memories in a Bears shirt and hopefully helping bring success to Bristol.”
