Born in Alberton, South Africa, Uys is a powerful centre who stands at 6'3" and over 100 kg. Having represented the Cheetahs in Super Rugby, Uys opted to move to England and take up a contract with Newcastle Falcons in the English Premiership. After a solitary season, Uys joined up with Sale Sharks.
