Despite leading the Meters Gained, Defenders Beaten and Gain Line Carries, England failed to get ahead where it mattered as Italy broke. record breaking losing streak and won 23-18 on home soil. England's downfall was a high number of penalties conceded and some moments of lossed concentration against and Italian side that was up to the task and, despite a small drop off in intensity in the second half, kept their foot on the gas.

The best lead England had was an eight point lead after 53 minutes but a Sam Underhill and Maro Itoje yellow card soon after that saw the lead go away and Italy take the lead thanks to a Leo Marin try.
With the game in the balance Ollie Chessum made a break and Paolo Garbisi put in a game saving tackle on the big man in full flight.
