The Hooker features for club side Canon Eagles and Super Rugby side the Sunwolves.
Niwai went on to debut for Japan in November 2017 and has since gone on to represent his country on 8 occasions.
In December 2018 he re-signed with the Sunwolves for the 2019 season and enters the new season with 18 Super Rugby caps
