Brumbies claim bonus-point win over Drua

The Brumbies have claimed a bonus-point 33-12 victory over the Fijian Drua in round eight of Harvey Norman Super Rugby Pacific at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane.

Two tries from fullback Tom Wright bookended the Brumbies win on the night of loosehead prop James Slipper’s 150th Super Rugby game, Dan McKellar’s side top of the table heading into the bye week.

Centre Irae Simone and flyhalf Rodney Iona combined well throughout the game and were influential in sending Wright over unopposed for the opening try of the game.

The second came in similar fashion with some slick hands across the face of the Drua defensive line, Andy Muirhead throwing a perfect pass to Cam Clark for his second try in two weeks.

White converted from out wide, but handling errors and some stiff Drua defence would mean it would remain 12-0 at the break.

Billy Pollard was impressive on his starting debut and was rewarded with the Brumbies third try of the night off the back of a trademark rolling maul.

The Drua responded through Onisi Ratave, but the Brumbies would soon restore their advantage, Connal McInerney the next to score again off the back of a rolling drive.

Ratave crossed again for the Drua, and the Brumbies bonus point looked to be lost.

With the final attack of the game, the Brumbies moved the ball right and found Hudson Creighton. The finishing centre showed good speed and footwork to break the line, and had the presence of mind to find Wright who raced away to finish the job for the Brumbies.

The final score, 33-12 to the Brumbies.

The Brumbies will now serve the bye before taking on the Highlanders in Melbourne for Super Round.
