England Player Ratings v Ireland

England Player Ratings v Ireland

Ireland completed their 2021 Six Nations campaign with a third win in a row, seeing off England 32-18 at the Aviva Stadium.

Here is how we rated Eddie Jones' men.

15. Elliot Daly - 5

Beaten in the air by Hugo Keenan for Jack Conan's try and it didn't too much better for Daly, who Eddie Jones admitted was having a tough Six Nations.

A brighter second half but still a forgettable campaign for Daly.

14. Anthony Watson 5

Starved of the ball. Made just one carry. Made a great turn over and pressured Earls to get good field position but other than that Watson wasn't able to properly get into the game.

13. Ollie Lawrence - 6

Simply outplayed by his opposite number after a late call up to the starting line up.

Defended well enough but held up on his first carry and made just one other carry throughout the game. Needs to see more ball to be more effective.

12. Owen Farrell - 5.5

His kicking out of hand wasn't as sharp as it was last week against France. Had some bright moments but his tackling technique let him down as he was forced off with a head knock in the 55th minute.

11. Jonny May - 6

Keith Earls bamboozled May with his brilliant footwork to score the opener.

Took his chance well but like Watson, May didn't see enough ball and spent the game chasing kicks.

10. George Ford - 5

Below par for his high standards.

A few miss-hit kicks and conceded three turnovers before he was pulled

9. Ben Youngs - 6.5

Scored nicely from the back of a driving maul. A mixed bag with his kicks.

1. Mako Vunipola - 4

Removed at halftime after a torrid time against Furlong in the scrum. Largely anonymous around the park too.

2. Luke Cowan-Dickie - 6

A solid game from Cowan-Dickie but was taken off at half time due to England's struggles in the scrum.

3. Kyle Sinckler - 6

A forgettable performance in the scrum but was one of the more effective forwards around the pitch.

4. Maro Itoje - 6

Top tackler in the game, Itoje wasn't penalised as much against Ireland and was effective in the rucks and carried strongly.

5. Charlie Ewels - 6

Another early substitute. Ewels was good on defence and clearing out rucks.

6. Mark Wilson - 6

Defensively Wilson was sound but offering little on attack, he was replaced shortly after half time as Eddie Jones looked to swing the game.

7. Tom Curry - 6.5

Charged around the pitch getting through a mountain of work as he usually does. A few uncharacteristic errors hurts his rating.

8. Billy Vunipola - 5

His collisions with CJ Stander but Vunipola wasn't as effective with his own carries and couldn't generate the front foot ball England needed.

Replacements: Jamie George  (6), Ellis Genge (5), Will Stuart (5), Jonny Hill (6), Ben Earl (5), George Martin (5), Dan Robson (5), Joe Marchant (6)
