England Women notch up 18 consecutive victories

Women’s rugby in England is in a healthy space, to say the least. The Red Roses have hit a purple patch of late which has included knocking over the likes of France, the Canada and New Zealand.

Their recent, monstrous, 89-0 victory over the USA marked their 18th consecutive victory – an immense effort which has greatly pleased head coach Simon Middleton.

"I don't think we've moved just our game on but I think we've moved the women's game on in the last month," Middleton said.

"We've shown what is possible if you back the girls, if you provide the resources and put them in the right environment, they are just fantastic players.

"Full credit to them; you have to take the opportunities that are put in front of you, the RFU have backed us, and we have taken the opportunity.

Middleton rung the changes for the USA match and his charges still managed to run in 15 tries, thus highlighting the fantastic depth within the squad.

"We defended fantastically well, sometimes when you score that many tries, you overlook it a little bit, but defensively we were aggressive," added Middleton.

"We didn't contest the breakdown well enough in the first half, but defence shows the desire of a side, and we were desperate when they had the ball not to let them score."

The RFU has given considerable backing to the Women’s set-up in recent years and the latter are making sure that all sacrifices by the former are bearing significant fruit. In the form that they are currently enjoying, they look almost unstoppable. The sky is the limit for this talented squad.
