The Lions held on in the face of a fierce comeback to edge the Cheetahs 34-29 in an eight-try Super Rugby thriller at Ellis Park on Saturday.
In what must rate as the best game of the season, the Lions twice took a commanding lead in the a second half that produced six of the eight tries.
However, as they did after going behind 0-7 down inside the opening five minutes, the Cheetahs came back from being 13-24 down to draw level at 24-all and then being behind 24-34 to close the gap to just five points with two minutes to go.
