Munster Rugby and the IRFU are pleased to confirm that Seán Edogbo will be promoted to the senior squad next season on a two-year deal.
The 21-year-old back-row forward from Cobh played his age-grade rugby with Cobh Pirates and won a Munster Clubs Boys U18 Cup title in 2022.
He becomes the second-ever player from the club to sign a senior contract with Munster, following in the footsteps of his brother Edwin.
Seán was selected for the Munster Club Select Programme (CSP) side in 2021 and lined out against Crescent College, CBC and PBC alongside fellow senior squad members Tony Butler and Ethan Coughlan.
He played for the Munster U18 Clubs in 2021 and the Munster U19s in 2022 before joining UCC, where he made his AIL debut in 2022. He has since racked up 43 appearances for UCC at various levels over the past four seasons, including 39 AIL appearances.
He lined out with the Ireland U20s in the 2024 6 Nations, scoring a memorable match-winning try against Italy at Virgin Media Park, and also featured in that summer’s World Rugby U20 Championship.
He joined the Munster Rugby Academy in 2024 and toured South Africa with Emerging Ireland that September.
Seán made his Munster debut against Dragons at Virgin Media Park in January and was named Player of the Match after an excellent performance.
He kept his place in the side for the following week’s game away to Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun.
Edogbo is the second player from the current Academy group to be promoted to the senior squad next season.
It has previously been confirmed that 21-year-old back three player Ben O’Connor will also be moving up on a two-year contract having already played 17 games for Munster, including five appearances in the Champions Cup.
In other Academy news, Irish qualified scrum-half Ben O’Donovan, who has signed for Munster on an 18-month deal, has entered the Academy programme as a Year 3 player.
