The Rugby Europe Championship Final Round

The Rugby Europe Championship Final Round

This weekend we head into the final round of the Rugby European Championship and while there is already a winner, second place and the relegation playoff place are still two positions that need to be confirmed.

The Georgian national rugby team, nicknamed The “Lelos”, beat Portugal in the French capital of Paris last week and claimed their 12th Rugby European Championship title - their third in a row.

It will be an all out war to claim second place this weekend, as the new boys in the championship Portugal will battle it out with Spain in Madrid.

In 2016, the Portuguese national side was relegated from this competition but with their place in next year's Championship already assured they are able to achieve a new milestone in this competition's new format.

Who plays in the Promotion/Relegation play-off still needs to be decided but it looks like either Romania or Belgium will face the Netherlands, who are leading the Rugby European Trophy log.

Two points currently separates Belgium from Romania on the log but an away trip to Stadionul Municipal in Botoșani things could get tricky for the Zwarte Duivels.

Fixtures:

14 March: Romania vs Belgium - Stadionul Municipal, Botoşani

14 March: Georgia vs Russia - Mikheil Meskhi Stadium, Tbilisi

15 March: Spain vs Portugal - Estadio Nacional Complutense, Madrid
