Petrus du Plessis

31st May 1981 1.85m/122kg Coach

The big South African prop impressed while playing in the Championship for Nottingham. Injuries in the Saracens front row led to Du Plessis being signed and he grabbed hold of the opportunity with both hands. The tighthead prop is strong at scrum time and makes his presence felt in the rucks and mauls.

He is also a qualified physiotherapist with degrees from Stellenbosch University and Salford University behind his name. Du Plessis has also qualified to represent England in the future should he ever be called up.

The prop has shown his worth straight away as he became a starter and part of the pack ever since. In his time at Saracens he was involved in three Premiership wins and a European cup victory.

In June 2017, Petrus Du Plessis agreed a deal to join London Irish ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Lifting the European Rugby Champions Cup twice and the Premiership Rugby title on three occasions, the tighthead prop added vast experience to the Exiles’ pack.

Having joined Saracens from Nottingham in 2009 and has since made 158 appearances for the North London club.

Playing at Saracens under Irish Technical Director Brendan Venter, Du Plessis’ final game for Saracens was as a second-half replacement in a 28-17 Champions Cup Final victory over Clermont.

He represented the Exiles 27 times before signing for Glasgow Warriors in October 2018.

As of the 2018/2019 Champions Cup, du Plessis has had 32 European Cups appearances.

Following the 18/19 season he extended his stay at Glasgow for another two year in a player-coach role.
