Champions & Challenge Cup Wednesday COVID Update

Montpellier vs Leinster Rugby

Leinster Rugby returned to training today at UCD following Monday’s postponement and a full round of antigen and PCR tests which were carried out on site.

Leinster Rugby can confirm that the club is assisting an additional number of senior players who have tested positive for Covid-19 and are now self-isolating.

The latest cases follow the antigen and PCR testing which were carried out at Leinster Rugby on all players, coaches and staff.

The remaining members of the Leinster Rugby squad have resumed training in UCD.

Montpellier have not yet given an update following the confirmation of a 5th positive in the squad.

Ulster vs Northampton Saints

The Ulster Rugby Medical Performance team has issued no COVID-related updates ahead of Friday’s Heineken Champions Cup fixture against Northampton Saints at Kingspan Stadium.

Rob Baloucoune, who sustained a shoulder injury in the win over Clermont Auvergne at Stade Marcel Michelin, will be unavailable for selection this weekend.

Bath vs La Rochelle

Following this week’s round of PCR testing, Bath has returned a very small number of positive results.

As a precautionary measure, training has been postponed and Bath's schedule adjusted to protect the health and wellbeing of the staff and players.

Training at Farleigh House will resume following the next round of PRC test results later this week.

Munster Rugby

The majority of the 34-person travelling Munster party that returned from South Africa on Wednesday, December 1, have completed their quarantine period.

The 14 players and staff that were quarantining in Cape Town have all safely returned home.

Despite recent Covid infection with recovery, they have been required to undertake an additional period of self-isolation as advised by public health.

There is disappointing news on the injury front as Joey Carbery suffered an elbow fracture on Sunday and will require surgery on Thursday.

Chris Farrell (abdomen), John Hodnett (ankle), Roman Salanoa (knee) and Academy player Jonathan Wren (leg) all made successful returns from their respective injuries against Wasps.

Scarlets Rugby

Having had to forfeit their opening game against Bristol Bears following the completion of 10 days in an isolation hotel in County Antrim, the Scarlets squad returned to training at Parc y Scarlets on Monday.

Wasps Rugby

Wasps are confident of sending a side to Toulouse despite being severely depleted by Covid-19 cases and a lengthy injury list.

"I think we've got nine people including staff unavailable [due to Covid-19]," said Blackett. "Mainly players, you can see how it hit us. We had five from the game that would've been involved.

"The guys were retested and they all came back negative. As you can imagine, there's some frustrated guys out there with no symptoms. We only tested six out of the eight and, all six came back negative. We've looked into it, they were towards the back end of the illness, nothing has come up on the lateral flows.

"To be fair at the time it shocked us really."

Pau vs Saracens:

A Covid-19 outbreak in Saracens camp sees the club withdraw from their Round 2 fixture against Pau on Saturday.

The club has taken the immediate action of closing the training ground and isolating all players, coaches and support staff.

The squad will return to full training on 24th December following the necessary period of isolation.
