Another entertaining round of Mitre 10 Cup with North Harbour and Northland continuing to impress while the Ranfurly will stay in Canterbury for the time being.

Fletcher Smith's 34-point haul is the best individual haul in a game this season and lifted him to a share of highest points scorer on 56 points with Wellington's Jackson Garden-Bachop.



98 - Canterbury's 78-20 win over Southland in the Ranfurly Shield ties the record for most points scored in a Mitre 10 Cup fixture.


Wellington vs Hawke's Bay

Wellington's forward pack as they inspired a fantastic 40-27 win over Hawke's Bay.

Julian Savea opened the scoring for the home side when he crashed over the line.

His try was followed by tries from Sitiveni Paongo and Alex Fidow with the latter getting his second just after the break.

Wellington lead by 11 points at halftime and extended their lead through another Alex Fidow try as well as tries from Wes Goosen, and Malo Tuitama.

Hawke's Bay finished well with Jason Long, Sam McNichol, and Jorian Tangaere scoring.

Counties Manukau vs North Harbour

Despite both sides only scoring 2 tries a piece Harbour were able to claim an 18-27 victory thanks to their excellent goalkicking. 

Tim Nanai-Williams had a fantastic game but his efforts were all in vein at the end of the day.

Canterbury Vs Southland

With the Shield still very much up for grabs at half time with the score at 17-17, Canterbury came out all guns blazing in the 2nd half and scored 61 points in 40 minutes with Ennor and Bridge scoring most of the tries and Mo'unga dictating play well supported by Bird, Brown and Drummond. Full-time score: 78-20.

Manawatu vs Bay of Plenty 


A close battle between these two sides with only one point separating the two sides at half time.

Manawatu dominated the majority of the game but when Bay of Plenty made their substitutes the game turned.

The Bay finally got in front with only 5 minutes left on the clock after their forwards earned them a penalty try.
 
They were able to hold on to secure their second win of the season. Fulltime score: 17-20

Auckland vs Taranaki

Taranaki came out all guns blazing against a wounded Auckland side desperate for a win. The home side managed to fight back and get back into the game but fell apart at the end as they concede close on 50 points. Taranaki are flying high this season and will look to keep it up. FT: 38-49

Northland vs Waikato

Northland thrashed Waikato 37-7 in a one sided encounter in round 4 of the Mitre 10 Cup.
 
The hosts crossed for two first half tries and slotted two successful penalties to take an 18-0 lead into the break.
 
A further two tries followed for Northland as they took the game away from Waikato, who could only manage a late consolation score.
 
But it would be Northland who would finish with a flourish as they ran in their fifth try of the match with the last play of the game to wrap up a resounding victory.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Tasman Makos vs Wellington

A nail biter that could have finished with a win for either side but Tasman and Mitch Hunt took control of the game in the latter stages of the 2nd half to secure a solid win beating Wellington and dishing out their 1st loss of the season.

Hawke's Bay vs Otago

Otago thrashed Hawke's Bay 64-21 away from home in the final match of round 4. Otago were completely dominant in the first half as they ran in four tries and slotted a penalty to take a commanding 31-7 lead into the break. The one sided affair continued in the second half, with Otago crossing for a further five tries to bring their tally for the match up to nine as they sealed a quite emphatic victory.
