Try Analysis | Tomos Williams unlocked the All Blacks defence
- 1243
Tomos Williams, the small Welsh magician unlocked the All Blacks defence in the 32nd minute for Tom Rogers to score his second try. Lets analyse how he did it.
1. Tomos Williams indicates (red circle) to referee Holly Davidson that Scott Barret is not rolling away.

2. Davidson indicates that Wales have a penalty advantage and that is happy news for a player like Tomos Williams. Blair Murray (number 1) picks up that there is no defender behind the breakdown and Williams puts a grubber through for the fullback.

3. Because Murray (number 1) comes from the outside in, the All Black defenders does not pick him up as a threat.

4. Wales retain the breakdown. Important to note is Dan Edwards (number 1) slotting into first receiver. Because he receives the pass from Williams, it means Wales have speed on the ball.

5. The pass from Williams misses out 4 New Zealand defenders. Edwards draws Simon Parker and Fabian Holland. Because it is so close to the try line, Holland cannot leave Parker alone with Edwards.

6. Edwards throws a flat pass to Max Llewellyn whick means he beats Holland on the outside and Rieko Ioane needs to step in, leaving Tom Rogers to trott over for his second try.

Key points
-Wales need a scrumhalf and flyhalf to make the right decisions. Both Williams and Edwards can do that.
-All the passes were in front of the players. No one had to slack down on attack.
