Superb Toulon bury Bath

Bath push the Toulonnais all the way as the three-time champions come through at Stade Mayol.

While the first half didn’t disappoint, things certainly livened up in the second.

After mounting pressure on the Toulon in-goal, Russell was freed to come up with a sneaky fake pass to set up new fullback Santi Carreras for Bath.

But another man with immeasurable hype around him this season, Gaël Dréan, burst through for the Toulonnais four minutes later to restore the lead.

A Bath response only riled up the Toulon pack more, who were soon over again courtesy of Lewis Ludlam. 

35-27 with 10 minutes to go, Bath knew they had to act quickly — and they did.

Louie Hennessey’s pace was too hot to handle on 74 minutes as he tore apart the Toulon backline.

The hosts weren’t done there though as they pushed on. Teddy Baubigny bullied one over for a late score as Toulon take the defensive bonus point away from Bath’s grasp.
