Shortly before embarking on the HSBC Sevens World Series, Eddie played a major part in the thumping RaboDirect PRO12 win away to Cardiff Blues in September 2011, scoring perhaps his best ever try for the Warriors with a lung-bursting run from distance. James was voted under-18 Scottish player of the year in 2003, and that honour was followed by his being named young player of the year at the Glasgow Rugby Awards Dinner in April 2004 He followed that up with the William Purves Quaich as Outstanding Scottish Young Player of the Year in 2006.

He made his senior Glasgow debut as a replacement in the 26-20 away win over Munster in February 2006.

In May 2016 he was named as Specialist Skills Coach for GHA.
