WRU change selection policy for players abroad

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has today announced it is changing their Senior Players Selection Policy (SPSP), known to many as Gatland's Law.

Under the stewardship of the New Zealander, Wales have only been able to pick three overseas based players for Test duty, while it was set to increase to four players for the upcoming season.

The announcement made today sees Wales follow a similar structure to Australia where players who have made 60 Test appearances or more will be available for selection, regardless of where they play their club rugby.

In the current squad, Taulupe Faletau, George North and Jamie Roberts all fit the requirements having played over 60 times and are currently based in the Aviva Premiership.

Ospreys fly-half Dan Biggar will be joining Northampton Saints next season and he should hit the 60 Test mark in next month's Autumn series which will make him eligible for selection.

The law leaves the international careers of Rhys Webb and Ross Moriarty in the balance as they have both made 28 & 17 appearances respectively.

Webb has signed for Toulon for the 2018-19 season on a three-year deal while Moriarty plys his trade with Gloucester Rugby.
