- 1079
Captain Sophie de Goede once again underlined her importance to the Canadian side with a commanding display. Operating from the second row, she carried the ball 14 times for a total of 62 metres, consistently giving her team front-foot momentum. Her ability to link play was also evident with 15 passes and two offloads, showing her range as more than just a ball-carrier. Defensively, she contributed 10 tackles and won two turnovers, making her one of the most influential figures on the field. De Goede’s all-round game highlighted both her leadership and versatility in a match where Canada leaned heavily on her contribution.
Tyson Beukeboom provided Canada with stability and consistency, especially in the close quarters of the contest. While her attacking numbers were modest, with 11 metres gained from seven carries, she was invaluable in the engine room of the scrum and lineout. Beukeboom also worked tirelessly on defence, completing nine tackles, many of them crucial in halting opposition momentum. Her presence gave Canada an experienced anchor in the pack, ensuring composure when the pressure was on.
Flanker Chelsea Crossley delivered a performance defined by work rate and determination. She carried nine times, making an impressive 55 metres and beating one defender in open play. Her ability to punch holes in the defence gave Canada another attacking outlet outside of de Goede. On the defensive side, Crossley stood out as one of the hardest workers with 12 tackles, more than any other Canadian forward on the day. While she may not have registered in the flashy statistics of breaks or turnovers, her relentless effort ensured that Canada stayed competitive at the breakdown and around the fringes.
Together, de Goede, Beukeboom, and Crossley demonstrated the strength and depth of Canada’s forward pack. De Goede led with her all-round impact, Beukeboom added reliability in set pieces and defence, while Crossley provided the energy and defensive steel to complement both. Their combined efforts reflected a balanced performance that showcased the team’s ability to match physicality while contributing vital metres in attack.
