Challenge Cup Final | A look at the numbers
- 299
A score of 59-26 to Ulster sees them bank one of the biggest scores in a final in the competitions history. While the scoreline was one sides the team stats would make you beleive it was a close contest with Possession, Territory, Meters Gained, Offloads, Turnovers Won, Line Out Success, Ruck Success and Tackle Success all slightly in the favour of Ulster.
The big success that Montpellier had was their well executed defensive sets that drove Ulster back up to 20 meters from origin at times and the work that their loose trio did on both sides of the ball.
Individually Uelese and Timoney lead the way with two turnover wins each with five other players each registering one each. Nouchi (16) and McCann (14) lead the way with tackles comepleted with three players on 13 each, all of which were from Montpellier.
Vincent and Izuchukwu each made two offloads each with the Ulsterman making more meters with ball in hand than any other player on the night as he chewed off 55 meters. Nine players made a game high nine carries, all were from Ulster but they only beat a defender 27% of the time.
Baloucoune beat more defenders than any other player ending with four but most of those came in late in the the second half as he and Ward were kept wrapped up for the opening two thirds of the game.
