Sharks survive a late Saracens onslaught

Sharks fended off some late Saracens pressure to hold firm for their first win of the season.

A cagey 20 minutes to start the second period saw just three points scored for the visitors.

The breakthrough came via a Theo Dan sin bin, which paved the way for Sharks to eventually breakthrough and extend their lead when Grant Williams crossed under the posts.

A three-point buffer didn’t seem to satisfy the hosts as they kept pushing late on, but Saracens weren’t ready to let the tie escape their grasp.

Tom Willis went over 15 minutes from time to bring the English to within five to set up a fascinating finish.

Despite two late line outs within touching distance of the in-goal, some resolute Sharks defending fended off the Saracens threats late on.

One win apiece then for these two after Round 2 with everything to play for in the New Year.
