RWC2025 pool permutations ahead of matches on Sunday, 31 August

With one round of the Women's Rugby World Cup 2025 pool phase still to play, only three teams – England, Canada and Scotland – have already secured qualification for the quarter-finals. Five places in the last eight remain up for grabs, and below we outline how results in each pool could still affect the outcome.

Pool A

  • England have qualified after USA - AUS draw on Saturday - they have 10 points to 8 (AUS) and 3 (USA)
  • USA must beat Samoa with a bonus point (BP) to have a chance of a quarter-final
  • Australia need a BP to qualify for the quarter-finals regardless of what USA do
  • If Australia lose and don't get a BP and USA win with a bonus point, they both finish on eight points - it will go to points difference first given draw (currently +135 in Australia’s favour, +73 to -62)

Pool B

  • Canada and Scotland have qualified

Pool C

  • If both New Zealand and Ireland win, both qualify for quarter-finals
  • If Spain beat Ireland without a BP, then a New Zealand BP win means they qualify (only Ireland could match their 10 points)
  • Same applies for Ireland if Japan win without BP
  • If either Japan or Spain get a BP win then it will go to final round as three teams could still finish on 10 points

Pool D

  • If both France and South Africa win, both qualify for quarter-finals
  • If Italy beat South Africa without BP and France beat Brazil with BP, then France qualify (Italy can't get more than nine)
  • If Italy get BP win, then it goes to final weekend to determine quarter-finals
  • If Italy and South Africa draw, then France will qualify with a win
