The powerful lock forward has added great value to the Leicester second row and is becoming a regular in the England setup. The Newcastle University graduate cut his teeth in the Premiership with the Newcastle Falcons, but was named Newcomer of the Year by Leicester supporters in 2009/10 after his move to Welford Road.

With captaincy experience at the Falcons he is now a leader in the Tigers pack. The powerful lock forward has added great value to the Leicester second row and is becoming a regular in the England setup. The Newcastle University graduate cut his teeth in the Premiership with the Newcastle Falcons, but was named Newcomer of the Year by Leicester supporters in 2009/10 after his move to Welford Road.

In 2013 he was selected to tour Australia with the British and Irish Lions, and started the third and final test in which the Lions romped home against the Aussies to secure series victory.

In January 2015, Parling announced after 6 years at Welford Road he would move onto pastures new and join Exeter Chiefs for the 2015/16 season on a two year deal. Parling has secured a spot in Lancaster's 31 man squad for the 2015 RWC after a number of impressive performances in the pre World Cup warm up games with England.

In May 2017, Exeter Chiefs lock Parling is set to leave the club at the end of their current campaign to further his career in Japan and Australia.

He eventually signed for the Melbourne Rebels' 2018 Super Rugby season.

In November 2018, Parling moved from the Rebels locker room into the coaches ball pen when he was appointed Lineout Coach of the club where he served for 2 years and at the end of the 2020 Super Rugby AU season he was announced by Dave Rennie as the new Wallaby line out coach.
