RFU confirms departure of attack coach Martin Gleeson after Nick Evans’ arrival

Martin Gleeson, the attack coach for England’s Senior Men’s team, has left his role according to the RFU.

Departure appeared inevitable after Nick Evans was handed the reins of the attack last week, and the Rugby Football Union confirmed his exit with immediate effect.

He joined the team from Wasps in 2021, where he had been the attack coach since 2019.

Gleeson said: “It’s been a pleasure to represent my country again and to work with this group of players. I wish them all the best this coming year.”

He won the Super League twice (2002 and 2010) and the Challenge Cup in 2004. Gleeson began his coaching career with Salford in 2014 before joining Wasps.

RFU executive director of performance rugby Conor O’Shea, added: “We’d like to thank Martin for his contribution and hard work at England Rugby and we wish him the very best for the future.”

Evans will begin his role next month and will continue throughout the Six Nations.
