Bedford Blues signs off 2025 with a morale boosting 33-10 victory over Richmond

Bedford Blues signed off 2025 with a morale boosting 33-10 victory over Richmond at a sold out Goldington Road that saw them end the calendar year in second place of Champ Rugby.

Always a danger that this one could become a bit of the 'after the lord mayor's show' following the stunning victory over Worcester Warriors last Saturday, and while it took a little while to get going at times, Blues continued to pose the questions and eventually found their answers.

It ensured they finished the year in the same way as they started it - with five points at Goldington Road. It's been a pretty impressive 12 months for Bedford Blues and that shouldn't be forgotten. The lads deserve a few beers tonight.

Assistant Coach, Jim Henry said: "Credit to Richmond because we knew they'd be a tough team to put away. We did create some opportunities but fair play to them for their last ditch defending.

"We wanted to be a bit more direct in the second half and I thought we were really good for that first 10 minutes in getting on the front foot and making good decisions when on the ball.

"The reaction after half-time was really pleasing and the impact off the bench extremely positive, Billy Pasco and Jonny Weimann having a really good impacts.

"But I'll bore you again and say it's take each game as it comes. We struggled at Chinnor last year and we know what we need to get right this time around."

It would be fair to say that the first 40 minutes was a tough watch with Richmond extremely resolute in defence to stem the tide of Bedford who came storming down the hill with great amounts of intent, but next to no execution.

A penalty try got them on the board after a driving maul, but they couldn't make the numbers game count to only have a 7-3 advantage at the break.

Not vintage by any stretch of the imagination, but a much improved second 40 had the crowd on their feet. After a crashing run from Nicholas Finch to the line, Dean Adamson put his trademark stamp on proceedings with a 60 metre run leaving everyone else in his wake.

Seb Brownhill hit back for Richmond after Lucas Titherington was sent to the sin bin for a breakdown infringement, but they also failed to capitalise on the man advantage with no further points in the contest.

Blues put the cherry on the cake with two late scores from Jonny Weimann and Tom Price to sign off the year in some style.
