Reaction from Australia captain Siokapesi
Palu and head coach Jo Yapp after they were defeated 46-5 by Canada in the quarter-final at Ashton Gate on Saturday
Siokapesi Palu, captain
On the match:
"I've got to give credit to the girls. We're talking about game drivers who are bloody 20 years old. We're trying to build towards the next Rugby World Cup, which is coming back home in 2029, but when you think we've got players who are mums, players who are trying to juggle work and lifestyle, players who are at uni[versity]... we're not a full-time programme at the moment. We're just trying to find a way to get to that point, but we're happy with what we produced, Canada were just the better team today."
On how much the matches against USA and England took out of Australia:
"We're going to take the positives. We've got a lot to work on in terms of the organisation and the help that we get from home, but I really want to take this opportunity to say thank you to England. They really showed what a Rugby World Cup should look like, they really set a benchmark, and the support has been immense."
On RWC 2029 in Australia:
"Like I said, we've got 20-year-olds and an 18-year-old who is about to finish school, so they'll be in their prime come our home World Cup."
Jo Yapp, head coach
On the match:
"We were beaten by a better team. Canada came out and we knew that if we allowed them to get quick ball, we know exactly what they're capable of, and that's exactly what we saw in that first half, so credit to them."
On a closer second half:
"We came out the second half and threw at it what we could. We had a put more ball and tried to stop that line speed but the game was already lost."
On the hopes for the future:
"This is an incredibly young and talented team. We've got 20- and 18-year-olds in key positions. That's the spine of the team and what they're capable of now providing they get the backing the deserve, looks great for the future."
On her time coaching Australia coming to an end:
"They're an incredibly talented group but also really good people and I've really enjoyed working with them. I've created memories for a lifetime and so have my family."
