Farrell Eyes Changes as Lions Aim for Historic Series Sweep Against Wallabies
- 1880
British & Irish Lions head coach Andy Farrell is expected to ring the changes for the third and final Test against Australia, with several players carrying injuries and the series already sealed following a dramatic 29-26 victory in Melbourne.
Hugo Keenan’s late try ensured the Lions wrapped up the series with a game to spare, putting them in position to complete a rare 3-0 clean sweep on Australian soil — a feat last achieved in 2013. However, Farrell is now balancing the desire to maintain momentum with the need to manage player workloads and fitness.
Several first-choice stars are unlikely to feature in the final match in Sydney. Back-rower Tom Curry is set to undergo wrist surgery after the tour, while captain Maro Itoje is managing a hamstring strain. Others in doubt include Jac Morgan, Joe McCarthy, Mack Hansen, Garry Ringrose (concussion), and Luke Cowan-Dickie, all of whom have struggled with injuries during the tour.
Despite the physical toll of the series, Farrell is expected to field a competitive side, with many players eager to impress in the final Test. A number of changes are anticipated across both the backs and forwards, offering opportunities to squad members who have seen limited action so far.
