Fiji to bid for Sevens leg

The Fiji Rugby Union has confirmed it will make a bid next month to hold a leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series.


The Union is kicking off the official tender process with a campaign to get locals to support the bid. Fiji media report the FRU has already received tender documents containing the strict criteria which is needed to be met including the support of the people of Fiji.

FRU Chief Executive John O'Connor said he is confident the union will be able to meet them.

The 'Fiji for 7s' task team includes the former Argentina Rugby Union CEO Greg Peters.

Fiji is bidding for a four-year contract starting in the 2019-2020 season.
