Ireland’s Joe Schmidt and Wales’ Warren Gatland both embark on their final Six Nations journey this year and while the two have been massive servants to their nations and the competition we thought we would have a look at how their records matched up against the likes of Sir Clive Woodward and Stuart Lancaster, who statistically are the best the tournament has had.

The New Zealander has been in charge of the Welsh national side for 12 years but he heads into only his 10th Six Nations campaign with then. In 2013 and 2017 his assistant, Rob Howley, took charge of the side while Gatland was overseeing the British & Irish Lions tours.
As Wales coach, the 55-year-old has a 100% record against Scotland and Italy while against France and Ireland he is sitting on 60 and 50%. Gatland’s biggest struggle in this competition has been against England in which he only has 38.46 win ratio.

Joe Schmidt (2013–2019)

The 53-year-old, New Zealand born coach, has been in charge of the Irish for six years now and that means he enters his sixth Six Nations competition. Schmidt will aim to become the first coach to win back to back Grand Slams in the modern era of the competition.
Schmidt currently has a 100% win ratio against Italy, 83% against Scotland and France, 50% against England and his worse is against Wales which sees him on 43%.
