Nomsa Mokwai

30th Aug 1992 1.72m/68kg No 4 Lock

Mokwai transitioned from netball to rugby early in her student days at
North West University in her hometown of Potchefstroom and soon had
to juggle the demands of both on her time. Rugby had the early inside
lane as she became one of the first professional players in the country
when the 2016 Springbok Women’s Sevens squad of signed contracts
with SA Rugby, before graduating and becoming a full-time professional
emergency room nurse. Once settled in that environment, she returned to
the provincial set-up and soon, national squad call-ups became another
part of her routine. Mokwai’s athleticism makes her a valuable lineout
asset, but it is also her ability to get around the field and do the dirty work
that endears her to coaches.
