Scotland head coach Bryan Easson, captain Rachel Malcolm and Mastercard Player of the Match Evie Gallagher react to their 29-15 win over Fiji in the second round of Pool B matches at Salford Community Stadium on Saturday.
Evie Gallagher, Mastercard Player of the Match
On the game:
"Scrappy, very very scrappy. You've got to give credit to Fiji, they brought it to us, pushed us right to our limits, but I'm glad we got to put on such a show for all the fans who came to watch."
On what she enjoyed most:
"The way we dug deep. We really stuck together to ground out the win. It's not necessarily where we wanted to finish that game [defending on their own 22] but I'm proud we stayed in the fight."
On the next game against Canada:
"Absolutely incredible. I've never played Canada before so exciting for me personally, but as a team, it's about righting the wrongs from this week and last week."
Bryan Easson, head coach
On reaching the quarterfinals:
"That feels nice, it sounds nice too. It was a test match, though. It was physical at times, we could have stuck to our tackles a little bit more, they were good on transition, but we've won the battle, we won the fight."
They're a resilient group and they understand that when there's adversity they can still together and pull through. We've got a great leadership group on the pitch. Fiji were brilliant but we stuck together, five tries, bonus point, we've done the job."
On Canada:
"They actually offload more than Fiji believe it or not, because they get a lot of gainline. We're going to have to work really hard this week to make sure they don't get as much gainline as Fiji did."
Rachel Malcolm, captain
On securing a quarterfinal place:
"Unbelievable. I don't really have the words right now. We've been thinking about this for a really long time, after what we've been through on and off the pitch. I don't think we've been in a World Cup quarterfinal for 24 years, so it's nice to create a bit of history. Every single person [in the camp] deserves every single second of that."
On what pleased her most:
"Fair play to Fiji, they made it horrible for us. We started the game well but let them back into the game. We didn't really know what to do about that. What pleases me is that, in previous years, we probably would have fallen away, but we stayed calm, ticked to our process and knew we could see out the game."
On playing Canada next:
"We know we need to be better than we were today but we'll enjoy this one then get our heads on on Monday."
