Sharks' owner has lawyers on standby to defend Rassie Erasmus

Marco Massotti has thrown his weight behind SA Rugby and Rassie Erasmus saying that he has a team of lawyers ready to defend the Union and their Director of Rugby in their disciplinary hearing.

On Monday, World Rugby confirmed that Rassie Erasmus and SA Rugby will face an independent misconduct hearing for comments regarding match-official performance during the Test series between South Africa and the British & Irish Lions.

Massotti who owns a controlling interest in the Sharks and is a partner of leading US law firm Paul, Weiss LLP in New York says that he has 'a team of New York lawyers ready to take care of Rassie and SA Rugby'

Masotti is based in New York but grew up in Amanzimtoti, Durban. His company, the MVM Holdings consortium, bought the controlling interest (51%) in the Sharks franchise.

Masotti is also involved with Jay-Z's sports agency Roc Nations who represent the likes of Siya Kolisi, Cheslin Kolbe and Maro Itoje as well as Kevin de Bruyne, Kyrie Irving and Marcus Rashford.

Roc Nations recently partnered up with the United Rugby Championship to help the league with the development of a Player Advisory Group, which should offer the athletes an avenue to make their opinions hear and play a part in developing strategies to promote and market the league.
