Johannes Coetzee

14th Mar 1988 1.86m/122kg Tighthead Prop

A specialist tighthead prop, Coetzee made his Currie Cup debut for the Leopards in 2010. 2011 saw him move to Racing Metro for the 2011/2012 season before singing up with Brive in 2012 and helping them secure Top 14 status for the 2013/2014 season.

Coetzee returned to South Africa to join the Free State Cheetahs for the 2015 Currie Cup Premier Division, but he missed the tournament through his involvement with Namibia at the 2015 Rugby World Cup where he played in four matches.

Coetzee was named the Cheetah’s Super Rugby Player of the Year for 2017 following his 51 appearances for the club.

He made his debut for the Free State Cheetahs in 2016's Currie Cup against WP and played in the Semi-Final against the Lions in Bloemfontein and in the Home Final against the Blue Bulls.

In April 2018 he signed a new year deal with the Cheetahs.

April 2020 saw Coetzee - who represented Namibia in two Rugby World Cups - sign a new deal to put on the Cheetah jersey until 31 October 2022

Ahead of the World Rugby Cup 2023, Coetzee has been named in the squad for Namibia.
