In the summer of 2009 Cook was allocated to Pontypridd RFC as one of the club's quota of Blues Academy players but was transferred to Cardiff RFC by the Blues at the beginning of the 2010/11 season.

He made his senior Blues debut against the Exeter Chiefs in 2010. Macauley went on to make 12 appearances for the Blues in the 2011/12. He made his Heineken Cup debut for the Blues in 2012 against Montpellier.

In February 2015, Macauley, who can operate at lock or back row, pledged his future by agreeing a new two-year extension to remain at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park until at least 2018.

He is rated as one of the most exciting young talents in Welsh rugby and has become a key component in the pack at Blues.

In December 2017, he pledged his future to the Blues with a long-term contract extension.

The versatile forward has established himself as an invaluable member of the Blues squad, making 167 appearances since his debut in 2010 and scoring 17 tries.

At the end of the 2019/20 season he left after a decade at the Blues and joined Jersey Reds
