Waratahs set to announce new coach

The Waratahs are set to formally announce their new Head Coach later this week with all indications pointing to current LA Giltinis boss, Darren Coleman.

It is understood that Coleman has agreed a three-year deal with the Tahs who are rebuilding after a dire 2020 which saw them bid farewell to former Head Coach Rob Penney. While they showed some encouraging signs in the recent 2021 Super Rugby Trans Tasman competition, the wins are still not forthcoming.

Rugby Heaven on Twitter: "Darren Coleman picked for Kiwi coach Rob Penney's Waratahs job: report https://t.co/QG7gxrjqnK… "

Speaking to ESPN, LA Giltinis assistant coach Stephen Hoiles said:

"He's a pretty upfront and honest type of guy, and I think he was pretty disappointed that he missed out on that Waratahs job a couple of years ago.

"And since he took Gordon to that premiership, which was his second with two clubs in four or so years, there's definitely been some interest there and I know that there was some more interest from other Super sides and there still should be. So yeah, he's definitely capable of coaching at that level."
