Yeovil-born Devoto was educated at Bryanston and Blandford and began his rugby career with local club Sherborne RFC. Having represented Dorset and the South West regions at underage level, Devoto went on to play for the England U19 and U20 sides.

Comfortable at both flyhalf and fullback, Devoto linked up with the Bath Academy in July 2012 and has since gone on to represent the full Bath side on several occasions. In early 2016 he was named in the England squad ahead of the 6 Nations.

Following his England call up, Devoto signed with Exeter Chiefs and joined his new club at the start of the 2016/17 season. He made his international debut against wales in May 2016.

He moved to Sandy Park in the summer of 2016, and whilst he admits it was difficult to adapt to Chiefs' playing style, he is enjoying his rugby. Devoto is enjoying regular starts under head coach Rob Baxter.

With one cap under his belt, Devoto was named in the England squad for the summer tour to Argentina.

As of the 2018/2019 Champions Cup, Devoto has had 21 European Cups appearances scoring 2 tries and 12 points.

Devoto's fine form was rewarded with a recall to the England squad ahead of the 2019 Six Nations.
